People with upper jaw bones exhibit underdevelopment, reverse biting, crooked… often have not only aesthetic problems, but also chewing functions. As an adult, orthodontics may not solve the problem completely, instead, patients often have to opt for surgery. For children in the golden age of orthodontics (6-12 years old), one of the highly effective solutions in the treatment of jaws and reverse bites is to wear a Facemask.
What is Facemask?
As the name Facemask (Vietnamese means mask for the face), Facemask is a facial tool, used when supporting orthopedics for dental cases, bringing drastic changes to pediatric patients with underdeveloped upper jaw bones in the anterior posterior direction or overgrowth of the lower jaw bone.
How Facemask Works
The Facemask instrument is designed to apply traction against the forehead and chin to pull the upper jaw bone forward, while controlling the growth of the lower jaw bone.
To be effective, children need to wear a Facemask for at least 8-12 hours a day at night and night. Although wearing the instrument does not feel comfortable, if you choose between surgery later and early treatment in the golden period of orthodontics for children, the doctor’s advice is to treat orthodontics early with a lot of scientific benefits.
