WHAT IS A LOOK?

A gummy smile, also known as a gummy smile, is a condition where the gums are excessively exposed when smiling, leading to a loss of aesthetics. A smile is considered non-gingival if the maximum smile does not reveal gums or the extent of gum exposure does not exceed 2mm.

Based on the degree of gum exposure when smiling, gummy smiles are divided into 4 different levels:

+ Slight gummy smile: When smiling, the gum tissue is exposed more than 3mm and less than 25% of the length of the tooth.

+ Moderate gummy smile: When smiling, the gum tissue exposes 25% more and less than 50% of the length of the teeth.

+ Severe gummy smile: When smiling, the gum tissue exposes more than 50% and less than 100% of the length of the teeth.

+ Severe gummy smile: When smiling, gum tissue exposes more than 100% of the length of the teeth.

REASONS FOR ERROR Laughter

There are two main groups of causes of gummy smiles:

Group 1: Relating to the face or relating to:

The upper jaw bone is longer than usual
Short upper lip
The upper lip  is too mobile (i.e. you can move it too easily)

Group 2: Involving teeth & gums

Overgrown teeth pull on the gum tissue.
Your teeth wear down and so the upper front teeth move downwards. As a result, the gums will move down along with the teeth. (In these cases, the teeth are usually square or short in shape.)
Overgrown gums due to poor oral hygiene or mouth breathing
